Yuja Wang Career

Wang won third prize in 1998 in the Ettlingen International Competition for Young Pianists in Ettlingen, Germany. She again won third prize in 2001 and the special jury prize in the piano section at the Sendai International Music Competition in Sendai, Japan. Wang also won the Aspen Music Festival’s concerto competition in 2002.

She made her European debut in 2003 with the Tonhalle Orchester Zurich, Switzerland. Wang also made her North American debut in Ottawa in 2005/06 where she replaced Radu Lupu.

She was named a 2006 biennal Gilmore Young Artist Award winner on September 11, 2005. As part of the award, she received $15,000, appeared at Gilmore Festival concerts, She also had a new piano work commissioned for her.

Wang has toured many places like the Academy of St Martin in the Fields led by Sir Neville Marriner, the Israel Philharmonic Orchestra, and Asia with the San Francisco Symphony and its conductor Michael Tilson Thomas.

She has also performed with many orchestras like Boston, Chicago, Cleveland, Los Angeles, New York, Philadephia, San Francisco, and Washington. Wang has performed with the Berlin Philharmonic, Staatskapelle Berlin, Hong Kong Philharmonic Orchestra, China Philharmonic, Filamonica Della Scala, Toronto Symphony Orchestra, Israel Hippharmonicm London Philharmonic, Orchestre de Paris, Orquesta Nacional de Espana, Orquesta Sinfonica Simon Bolivar, the NHK Symphony in Tokyo, Royal Concertgebouw Orchestra, Orchestra Mozart and Santa Cecelia. Nonetheless, she played tribute to Kennedy Center Honoree in 2019.
